Thank you, internet, for the gift of celebrity pets.
Celebrities might be super famous, rich and popular, but often, it’s their adorable celebrity pets that take centre stage. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the absolute blessing animals are, and that these celebs frequent their fur babies on social media for us all to see.
Miley Cyrus is renowned for her love of animals, with her Insta feed frequently featuring her beloved pets. She’s had cats, dogs, fish, and even a pig. She also had a free surprise album named Her Dead Petz to celebrate their memory.
Cyrus adopted Rottweiler-beagle mix Happy in 2012, after now-husband Liam Hemsworth found him behind a Wal-Mart, and has a pit-bull named Mary Jane.
Miley even has a pig—named Bubba Sue, who is often seen snuggled up with the singer on Instagram. Cyrus said Bubba Sue has an extreme love for vegetables–almost more than the vegan singer herself. The animal’s adorable, intelligent nature is a clear sign the animals are definitely more than “food” to some.
Ryan Reynolds and Baxter
After visiting a Houston animal shelter with the intention of getting a chocolate lab for a friend, Reynolds “fell in love” with one lucky pooch: a then 2-year-old dog named Baxter.
“I saw this big, dumb-looking retriever staring up at me,” he told ABC News.
“I whispered to him, ‘Hey, let’s get out of here.’ And he jumped up, like he spoke English fluently. He came with me, he jumped in the car, and we’ve been best buddies ever since.”
“I just fell in love with him. I didn’t mean to, I just picked him up along the way.”
Taylor Swift, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson
Probably one of the best-known pet owners, Taylor Swift loves her pet cats Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey. Meredith is named after the same character on Grey’s Anatomy, and gained prominence on the internet for her quirky habits, while Olivia is named after the Law & Order: SUV character.
While most of the pair’s day is spent napping and snacking, the kitties are worth a lot for their star power. Olivia even has a modelling contract.
It’s no surprise the two would skyrocket to popularity, especially with Swift’s references to them in her songs. In an interview with ET before the 2015 Grammys, Swift said her plans after the event were to hang out with her friends—and her much-loved felines.
“I’m going to go home to my cats. Men get me in trouble,” she said.
We feel you, Taylor. Hanging out with pets is much better, anyway.
Hugh Jackman and Dali
French bulldog Dali and poodle-terrier mix Allegra are two very lucky pooches. The pair are the beloved fur-children to famous actor Hugh Jackman.
Because Dali’s “moustache” sticks out in different directions, Jackman named the pooch after artist Salvador Dali. The pooch is a full-fledged member of the Jackman family—if they go somewhere, so too do their dogs; even on planes.
A dedicated pet owner, Jackman even dons his pets in warm jackets and snow shoes to continue their walks in cold winters.
Ariana Grande and Toulouse
Born in June 2013, five-year-old beagle-Chihuahua Toulouse is no stranger to fame. Not only has he featured in his famous human mum’s music video “No Tears Left To Cry”, appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, but he’s also won the 2018 Cutest Musician’s Pet award in the iHeartRadio Music awards.
The adorable pooch is named after the kitten in the 1970 Disney film, The Aristocats.
